PHOTOGRAPH AND NOTES ON SEAMED FLUTE TUBE MANUFACTURE
The above series of photograph show the initial steps in the production
of a seamed flute body tube starting from a sheet of silver. The flute
maker is progressively rolling the sheet round a bar of steel until the
edges nearly meet. The final photograph shows the tube far from finished.
A lot more skilled work is required to make the two edges meet exactly
touching along their full length. When he is satisfied that all is well
he will commence the hard silver soldering along the full length of the
joint - a difficult task requiring considerable skill.
The above tube was seen two weeks later, soldered, and the join was
invisible.
