PHOTOGRAPHS AND NOTES ON CARBON FIBRE FLUTE

The above three photographs show details of Matit carbon fibre flutes .
They have been produced as a result of collaboration between Finnish Flute player Matti Helin
and industrial designer Matti Kahonen.

These flutes are perhaps the most innovative in recent years

Whilst breaking with tradition in many major features of appearance and manufacture, the
Matit flute retains conventional Boehm system fingerings. The body and headjoint tube are
made from carbon fibre, which is light and very strong.

The mechanism is made from silver with mechanisms equally balanced on each side of
the flute.

All the keys are made from a high-technology materials. There are no conventional pads, the key discs sealing on inserts on the tone holes.

On open hole instruments the actual holes in the left hand keys are off centre and the key disc can be rotated to suit individual hand positions.

Magnets rather than springs are used to keep keys open or closed.

The above photographs and notes are as accurate as my knowledge on the subject permits. It should be noted that the quality of the photographs does not do full justice to the superb workmanship, quality and appearence of these flutes.
